Former commander Armed Forces, Lieutenant-general (rtd) Leo Beulen (Horn 1960) was recently installed as patron of the Foundation Herdenkingsmonument Militairen,
The Foundation Herdenkingsmonument Militairen is connected to the Monument of Tolerance in Haelen, Leudal. When it was unveiled in 2001, this was the first monument where allies and former enemies were commemorated together. During the Second World War, a total of more than 800 soldiers of 11 nationalities lost their lives in the Leudal area.
Leo Beulen started his military career in 1978 at the Royal Military Academy. He fulfilled various command and staff functions and amongst others was sent on missions to former Yugoslavia and Afghanistan. In 2016 he was appointed commander Armed Forces with the rank of Lieutenant-general. In 2019 Leo Beulen retired because of his age.
Leo Beulen said he was honoured to become patron of the Foundation. His appointment was acknowledged by the presentation of the wear pin of the Monument of Tolerance by chair Ria Schmieder MBE.
