In 1944 he was given the command of the Bren Gun Carrier platoon of the 1st battalion of Gordon Highlanders as an officer. The battalion in question is part of the 51st Scottish Highland Division. This division starts on November 14, 1944 with the liberation of the Leudal area. Charles Morley's bren carriers are the first Allied vehicles entering Roggel on the morning of November 16, 1944. In the afternoon of the same day, the unit must continue in the direction of the drainage channel. The Scottish soldiers dig themselves in around the farms on the Vlaas.
